In India, a bill of exchange that is due upon demand is sometimes written on a check. The person who gets the check and on whose behalf the cheque is drawn is referred to as the drawee. The individual who issues and writes the check is referred to as the drawer. The check must be deposited in the payee's bank account. The check is considered to have been honored if you present it to the bank and receive the correct amount. The check is then dishonored if the bank is unable to give the payee the requisite sum specified in the cheque. According to Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, a check will bounce if there are not enough money in the account, if the signature is inconsistent, etc. In India, bouncing a check is a crime that carries a sentence of up to two years in jail and a fine equal to double the value of the dishonored check. Furthermore, it is fairly evident from Section 143A that the complaint may get interim compensation for the problems brought on by the Cheque Bounce.
